I have been planning this site for a VERY long time! Actually I bought the book ‘HTML For Dummies’ in 1999 and it remains, almost a decade later, unopened! Yes, the fear of the net has been overcome at last and here we are!
I found myself a handy little Web design package too: NetObjects Fusion. So far so good. It’s not like the raft of over - simplistic stuff that’s easy to use but gives you a result which you are not happy with ( due to over - simplistic features ).
This Fusion thing is somewhere between those really lowly packages and the high - end stuff. In short, I wanted to get on with what interests me, and not spending 6 months learning ‘nuts ‘n’ bolts’ stuff I don’t want to know anyway. I’d highly recommend it for beginners / medium grade Web people. Click the grey button on any page to find out more.
I decided, despite also having an interest in Art / Graphics, to keep it relatively simple. It’s important to me that people everywhere can see as much of this site as possible. I well remember my days of struggling with a ‘dial - up’ internet connection, and it’s no fun at the best of times - mainly due to an overload of moving / hi - res. images on pages. None of that for me so!
I have decided instead to ‘outsource’ the ‘heavy’ parts of the site to the likes of ‘Flickr’ and ‘YouTube’.
You could do me a HUGE favour though! - or even a few - I would love to get your feedback on the design of my site, if links become broken ... that sort of thing. I have refrained from adding the manditory statement: “Check back soon for updates” because so often on sites this accompanies some fine text at the bottom reading something like “last updated 13/04/1999”.
What I will say is that, after 10 years of planning and 5 Volvo’s / 1 SAAB over 8 years, I’m not likely to stop now, so keep a watch out! I have a few more sites in the pipeline, mainly related to my Design work / Extensive collection of vintage computers. Links will be posted in due course! I’m off now to bring my 480s for a service ...
