In the last episode of the 1997 series the results of the ‘Top Gear’ design competition were announced. The competition invited participants to step forward 20 years in time and Design a “Rolls Royce” for the next Century ( as in, the one we’re now in ! )
My contribution did not win, but my work did find favour with the judges, one of whom proclaimed my entry his “favourite”. I was and am very proud that my design garnered positive attention out of over 900 entrants from all around the World who participated also.
That the judges were of such a high calibre in the fields that matter was a huge confidence boost for me: Peter Stevens ( designer of the McLaren F1 ) and Simon Saunders of Coventry University - which produces some of the World’s best car designers.

A letter from John DeLorean
In 1994, following much investigation, I managed to track John Z. DeLorean’s home address / telephone number. At that time I was interested in moving to the U.S. to study Automotive design.
I had several conversations by phone with Mr. DeLorean, and he both critiqued my designwork and went to the trouble of seeking out people he knew in colleges in the U.S. on my behalf.
While I ( for various reasons ) did not pursue this avenue, I came to realize that John DeLorean - former car maker, icon, celebrity - was a really decent and down to earth human being.
Mr. DeLorean passed on in 2005, aged 80. R.I.P. John, and thanks for taking the time to write to me. This letter is very special to me.
