I have been a fan of Volvo’s for about 10 years now - since my first car ( VW Vento ) went up in flames by itself and I ‘ended up’ with a 1991 Volvo 460 GLE. I still have it, and love it ... you will find it - and the rest - at the main ‘440 460 480’ link on the left.
Following on from that car ( 2000 ) I progressed to a 440xi in early 2001. I still have this car too - I took it from 77,000 miles to 145,000 in the intervening years. It ran with only the slightest hitches, the few of which I’ve documented in the ‘issues’ section.
The jewel in the Crown has to be the 480 though ... it’s the car that first got me interested in Volvo’s. Back in the 1980’s both it and the very similar looking Honda Aerodeck came out around the same time. I was buying ‘Autocar’ and walking to school at the time.
The 480 - quirks aside - is one of the best value sports coupes available today. With a little patience ( and basic maintanance! ) not only do you have a reliable car ( well, electrics aside! ) but it turns more heads than more common cars - like a BMW M3.
The 480’s are not in the same supply as they were. Having been built 1986 - 1995, in relatively small numbers ( 80,000 total ) they are not turning up as often on ebay as they used to - even up to 18 months ago. Better grab one while you can, or if you already have one, love it more!
Just one more thing ...To confuse matters even more, I bought a very special SAAB 9000 too ...
